Marie-Antoinette,
unknown street-artist, Strassbourg, 1999. Sketch, 120x70 cm. |

History
has always appealed to George Stuart,
creator of the Historical Figures®.
Mr. Stuart considers himself a student of history and enjoys giving a
dimension to the past with which people can identify. He started making
his Figures® many years ago to illustrate his lectures on these colorful
characters of the past. The tail began to wag the dog, and the Figures®
have developed a life of their own. But they continue to illustrate his
lectures that bring history to life. Each of the Figures® with its
clothing, jewelry, shoes, weapons, furniture are created by celebrated
artist and historian Mr. George Stuart. His Figures® can be seen alone or
together with his fascinating lectures. Some
of the Figures® are housed at the Smithsonian Institution. The largest
collection is at a permanent gallery at the Ventura
County Museum of
History & Art which has a rotating exhibit of 190 of these Figures®.
Mr. Stuart has devoted a large part of his life to research. He began
his studies of history and foreign relations at Georgetown and
Washington Universities, and he has a Fine Arts Degree from the
University of California. He has been a member of the staff of the
Smithsonian Institution where he was responsible for the President's
Wives exhibit. He and has performed in the theater on both coasts. |
